Refining an Experience: Why Doesn’t Windows Mobile Meet Your Needs?
Reading a recent article at CoolSmartPhone that comments on how few changes have been made to the Windows Mobile OS since the 2003 SE release, I’ve got to ask: What is the problem that so many people seem to have with Windows Mobile? Their writeup notes that there have been a number of dissatisfied users of the latest incarnation of the OS, version 6.5. They also note that with stripping away much of the UI enhancements added by third party manufactures, the actual OS hasn’t changed much. Is the latter true? Perhaps. Dissatisfied with 6.5: why?
So here’s my next question, …. what more do you want? In currently using a Windows Mobile 6.1 HTC Touch Pro I can’t find any real faults with the operating system. I’ve got a device that runs a stable, base OS that allows itself to be customized via registry tweaks and third party software solutions. I’ve got a phone, a wifi and bluetooth device, a GPS navigation system, a digital camera, a touch screen with outstanding resolution, and on and on. It’s a great little device. Is the OS perfect? No. There is no such thing. Is it robust and very mature? Sure. How does it compare to other mobile OS’? As a person who has used a device running almost every major platform, I’d say it stacks up VERY well.
